Ex-Transcorp boss, Ozigbo rallies support for Anambra flood victims

A former President and Chief Executive Officer of Transnational Corporation of Nigeria plc, Val Ozigbo, has called on citizens of Anambra state to join hands in alleviating the suffering of persons being challenged by ravaging flood in the state.

Ozigbo who made the appeal in a message to the people of the state titled: “A heartfelt message from Valentine Ozoigbo.” the Ex-Transcorp boss said no fewer than 20,000 persons have been displaced by floods Anambra State.

He said out of that number, 7,000 persons were in relief camps in various parts of the state.

Describing the incident as a major disaster, Ozigbo, who is a governorship aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party in next year’s election in Anambra State called for concerted action in alleviating the sufferings of the victims.

The message read in part,”In the midst of the social and political upheavals in the country, the youth uprising against police brutality, the #ENDSARS protest, a major disaster occurred in my home State of Anambra.

“Floods took over the homes, markets, schools, churches, and community centres in five local government areas. According to officials, over 20,000 people have been displaced and 7,000 are currently in relief camps in Anambra.

“For the people of Anambra East, Anambra West, Ogbaru, Ayamelum and some part of Awka North LGAs, life as they know it has been drastically altered as a result of this disaster.

“I have been in touch with the people affected by the floods. The need is enormous. Women and children are most affected. It can only be imagined, the trauma and the grief of losing everything to the floods and being rendered homeless.

“At a time like this, it is pertinent for us to rally support for our people who are facing these terrible conditions. Nothing is too small.

“Let us join hands and alleviate the suffering of our brothers and sisters.
Ndi Anambra are one. When one of us is hurting, all of us are hurting.”
