The Host Communities of Nigeria Producing Oil and Gas, (HostCom) has called on Governor of Anambra State, Willie Obiano to urgently set up the state Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (ANAMSOPADEC).

National President, HostCom, Dr Benjamin Tamaranebi made the call weekend in Awka at the Convention and Inauguration of 21 Local Government Areas Coordinators and Executives in the state.

He said the commission would not only facilitate development of local communities and peaceful disposition of indigenes, but would also dissuade youths from economic sabotage of pipeline vandalism, illegal bunkering, illegal refineries and other vices.

He said, “It is unfortunate that Nigeria does not have an operational youth and women developmental policies as well as lack of jobs for youth groups.

“This has contributed largely to youth displacement into militancy, political unrest, kidnaping, hostage taking, armed robbery, terrorism and banditry, happening in almost every part of our dear nation Nigeria.

“This is why HostCom has been striving all these years negotiating with government to address challenges of underdevelopment in oil and gas host communities.

“Today we have gotten 3% HostCom trust fund instead of 10 % we agitated at the National Assembly. We thank President Muhammadu Buhari for the promise kept.”

While soliciting for support in the ongoing negotiation for total inclusion and trust fund management in relation with monarchs for sustainable developments, Tamaranebi urged community leaders to ensure judicious use of the 3% trust fund to drive developmental projects in the host communities.

“Let’s work together to achieve greater things for our communities . We promise to carry every community along in our quest for infrastructure and human development, ” he said.

Anambra State officially joined oil-producing states, following an approval granted by the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), which has ratified the attribution of 11 oil wells to the state.
