Enugu Secures Release Of Kidnapped Victims Returning From Burial

The four persons kidnapped in Enugu while returning from a burial have been released.

The victims who travelled in a Sienna vehicle for a burial in Nsukka, were said to be returning to Enugu when the gunmen waylaid and took them hostage.

Mr. Ernest Ukwu, a trader and other victims , amongst them a Catholic Reverend Sister, were kidnapped Friday along the Nike-Ugwogo- Nsukka Road, on their way back to Enugu.

A lawyer was also among those abducted in the incident which was first reported by the Daily Vendor.

Their release was sequel to concerted efforts of the police and other security agencies with the active support of Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.

From Friday when the incident occurred, Daily Vendor reports that the State Commissioner of Police Mr. Ahmed Abdulrahman kept the police on their toes.

Even Senior officers were drafted to join the search party as police combed the bushes in search of the victims.

Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi was also on the Enugu East and Isi-Uzor Local Government chairman to ensure all hands were on deck.

Even though a demand of N20m ransom was made Saturday and Sunday, the Daily Vendor could not confirm if anything was paid to secure their release.
