Enugu Killings: Police Under Attack, Device New Defense Strategies

Since the Enugu violence where IPOB members were killed the police in the state appear to have turned target of attacks.

Recently, yet to be identified gunmen numbering over 20 attacked a police station at Ibeagwa Nike, along the Ugwogo/Opi road.

Two persons were reportedly killed and two police riffles taken away.

The armed invaders gained entrance into the station through the fence.

Even when the police is yet to react to that attack or apprehend the culprits, there have been other attacks allegedly recorded against the police in Enugu.

One of such was reported at a railway in the New Layout area of the state capital.

Two police men were reportedly shot and rumoured dead but a police source said that the policemen were rather hospitalized.

Unconfirmed reports say a vehicle stopped and fired on the police at the railway.

In response to the new spate of attack, the police have been on guard.

At the Abakpa police station for instance, a heavy road block is being mounted at night in front of the station.

There is also an unconfirmed notice making the rounds in the social media that a station warned those living in the barracks to make use of a certain second gate until further notice.

A DPO in Enugu is quoted to have issued the notice for what he referred to as security challenges in the state. (see attached documents).

While the public awaits police response and official statement to the recent attacks there are fears of insecurity in the state capital just as Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi continues working round the clock to maintain the peace for which Enugu is known for.

“See attached unconfirmed comments attributed to the IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu who has also been talking tough on the proscribed Radio Biafra, since the Emene killings.
