Engage in Tree planting exercise for healthy living, Anambra tells citizens

Secretary to the Anambra State Government, Professor Solo Chukwulobelu has urged families living in the state to engage in tree planting exercise as part of promoting healthy living.

Professor Chukwulobelu made this plea during the tree planting exercise by the Anambra State Waste Management Agency, ASWAMA to mark the 2020 World 2020 World Environment Day themed “Time for Nature: A focus on Biodiversity. ”

Secretary to the State Government, Professor Solo Chukwulobelu represented by the Permanent Secretary Office of the SSG and a former Managing Director of the State Environmental Agency, Dr Emma Udekpe kicked off the exercise at Alex Ekwueme Square in Awka, Anambra state capital.

 Udekpe said the protection of the environment would help secure the future of the society and called on families to join the tree planting campaign of the State Government by planting trees in their compounds to promote healthy living.

Also speaking the Chairman State House of Assembly Committee on Environment and Member representing Onitsha North Honorable Edward Ibuzo assured that the State Assembly would in collaboration with other arms of government and agencies sustain efforts towards protecting the environment from abuse by ensuring that existing environmental laws are effectively enforced to stop activities that degrade the environment and threaten the ozone layer.

The Managing Director of ASWAMA , Mr Amechi Akora on his part noted that the Agency planned to plant one hundred trees within the Square and explained that trees enhance biodiversity and promote healthy environment.

The ASWAMA boss said the Agency would collaborate With ASATU and other key stakeholders to ensure that the campaign is extended to all parts of the State , adding that all necessary measures are in place to nurture the trees and sustain the initiative,

Present at exercise were, the traditional ruler of Awka, Obi Gibson Nwosu, represented by the Traditional Prime Minister of the Community Chief Benjamin Okoye, and the South East Regional Coordinator of National Environmental Standards And Regulations Enforcement Agency -NESRA, Mr Peniel Jack among others
