End of the road for illegal schools

Anambra State Government has given schools operating illegally in the state end of current academic session to secure government approvals or risk being shut down.

The Commissioner for Basic Education, Prof Kate Omenugha gave the warning during her monitoring of schools’ resumption to ensure that nursery pupils were not allowed back to school as directed by the state government.

She said all unapproved schools in the state would no longer operate from next academic session.

Omenugha accompanied by Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra (OCHA) Brigade said that from next academic session, a task force would be sent to seal all such illegal schools in the state.

The commissioner had, as at last year advised all schools operating illegally in the state to secure government approvals or risk being shut down.

The schools visited are Jacy Grace International Nursery/Primary School, Floral Field Montessori Nursery/Primary School, Avenue Nursery/Primary School and Edify Nursery/ Primary School, all in Okpuno, Awka LGA.

At Jacy Grace International Nursery/Primary School and Floral Field Montessori School, all necessary requirements for resumption in adherence to COVID-19 protocols like infrared thermometer, hand sanitisers, buckets with tap and liquid soaps were provided.
