Empty treasury inheritance won’t deter me from performing – Transition c’ttee chair

…says he inherited an empty treasury

Transition Committee Chairman, Oyi Local Government Area, Anambra State, Hon. Emma Nweke on Monday lamented that he inherited empty treasury.

He however said the situation would not deter him in his efforts to ensure infrastructural development and sanitation of the area for the benefit of the residents.

Speaking while opening blocked drainages in Nteje market situated along the Enugu/Onitsha expressway, Nweke announced closure of markets on Tuesday to ensure their proper cleanliness.

He said, “The harmonious relationship between the traders and the council prompted me to perform more on sanitation for a conducive atmosphere for business to thrive especially now that some communites in the local Government have come up to urban status.

“Before now, Nkwo Awkuzu market was a mountain of refuse, but was cleared when I came on board. Traders are therefore warned not to dump refuse indiscriminately, build or trade on waterways.

“The law says don’t trade or build on drainages and whoever that goes contrary should face the wrath of the law, to help sanitize the area. We have been able to close some leakages on revenue generation. The revenue base of the council has increased than we met it.

“We are putting infrastructures to upgrade the markets, shops here the prices are high because of the commercial nature.”

On security ahead of the Yuletide season, the council boss said that water tight security has been put in place, assuring that local vigilante groups are working in synergy with the police and other security operatives.

“Security is everybody’s business, the council is not peculiar from other insecurity situation. Governor Chukwuma Soludo has done well on security, and here we work in synergy with the police, for effective policying”, he further stated.
