Ebonyi Land Dispute: 8 injured, 1 missing in Amasiri and Amata-Akpoha community clash

One person has been declared missing while 8 others were seriously injured following a recent land dispute between the people of Ezeke-Amasiri and Amata-Akpoha community in Afikpo North LGA of the state.

Confirming the incident to Everyday News, the Chairman Afikpo North Local Government Area Barr Oby Oko Enyim expressed regret over the brutal attack on Amata-Akpoha people by the Amasiri community.

The Afikpo Council boss directed security agencies in the local government to arrest and prosecute the perpetrators of the dastardly act to serve as deterrent to others.

Barr Oko Enyim during an emergency Peace and Security meeting at the Council Hall, Afikpo yesterday said that the meeting was to ensure that the attack did not escalate further and called for a cease fire.

She called on the people of the Area to desist from taking laws into their hands no matter the provocation adding that the state government, security agencies and other Stakeholders in the administration of Justice will always ensure that Justice is not only done but seen to have been done.

The Council boss also directed the two communities to stay clear from the disputed land until an amicably resolution is achieved.

The Coordinaors of Amasiri Development Centre, Hon(Mrs) Ngozichika Ezeugo and her Amoha Counterpart, Surveyor Theodore Chikwendu Ihite commended the Council Chairman for her quick intervention in the matter and implored their people to embrace peace.

The Divisional Police Officer in charge of the area, (DPO) CSP Livinus Nwenyim assured that the perpetrators of the act must be arrested and made to face the full weight of the Law.

He stated that men of the Division will maintain 24hours patrol/surveillance on the disputed land in line with the directive of the Council Chairman

A community leader, Elder David Egwu assured the Council Chairman of their continued cooperation and commitment for Peace to thrive in their respective areas. Ends.
