Ebonyi Assembly Sets Up Committee To Probe Killing Of 2 Villagers By Police

Ebonyi State House of Assembly has set up a 7-man Committee to investigate the gruesome murder of one Monday Nwali Otubo (Male, 21 years) and Emeka Paul Nwali (Male, 17), all from Ezzagu in Ishielu Local Government Area.

The setting up of the committee followed a petition by Hon. Arinze Chukwu, representing Ishielu South seeking a probe to unravel the remote and immediate causes of the gruesome murder of the two villagers.

It would be recalled that duo were shot dead last month by men of the Ebonyi State Police Command.

The police were on a mission to rescue some businessmen allegedly abducted in the community.

While the police claimed that the duo were part of the gang that kidnapped the businessmen, the community debunked the claim accusing the police of killing innocent villagers.

The 7-man committee has the Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Odefa Obasi Odefa as Chairman.
Other members include Hon. Victor Chukwu, Hon. Christian Usulor, Hon. Humphrey Nwuruku, Hon. Kingsley Ogbonna Ikoro, Hon. Onu Nwonye and Hon. (Mrs) Chinwe Lilian Nwachukwu.

Presenting the petition on the floor, Hon Chukwu urged the House to investigate the killings which has brought sorrow and tension to the peaceful community.

He noted that the investigation and subsequent prosecution of the perpetrators of the dastardly act would douse the already existing tension in the community.

The Speaker, Rt Hon Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru mandated the committee to swing into action and ensure that the perpetrators of this dastardly act are brought to face the full wrath of the law.
