The Duke of Obowo and President General of Imo State Union South-Africa, High Chief Kingsley Onukaogu has announced donation of N1million to empower some members of his age grade Utonwanne Age Umulogho.
Onukaogu, a reputable philanthropist made the announcement over the weekend during the funeral of his mother Late Mrs Agnes Onukaogu ((Akaekpuchionwa 1 of Obowo).
The financial gesture came barely one year when he installed street lights within Umulogho autonomous community and awarded scholarship to no fewer than 20 people in the community.
He was also instrumental to the recent developments in the community, including construction of morden double carriage entrance gate to Umuadara among others.
His philanthropy in Umulogho and beyond earned him several traditional titles, including the prestigious Duke of Obowo.
Speaking shortly after the funeral, High. Chief Onukaogu said he was moved by the passion of philanthropy to empower some of his age grade members who are low income earners.
He commended Utonwanne age grade for showing great solidarity and concern during the funeral of his mother.
Onukaogu noted that he would continue to support human capital development in the society with his God given wealth, while also thanking all those who stood by him during the funeral.
In a brief remarks, Chairman of Utonwanne Age Grade Mr Ikechukwu Iweajunwa commended Onukaogu for his patriotism and show of love to members of the age grade.
Iweajunwa assured Onukaogu that the money would be used specifically for empowerment and assured him that there would be transparency and fairness in selecting beneficiaries of the empowerment.
The Patron of Utonwanne Age Grade Mr Longinus Uzosike also in a brief remarks, thanked Onukaogu for his benevolence and urged him not to give up in the strogle to save the society.
