Driver dies after jumping out of moving trailer

A truck driver on Thursday lost his life in a lone fatal accident along Ihialla-Onitsha expressway in Anambra state.

The crash which occurred around 3.50pm at the entrance to FRSC Command involved a Mark Trailer with no registration number.

According to an eye witness report, the accident was caused by brake failure.

He said, “When the vehicle brake failed, the driver sighting hold up in front because of a police checkpoint, turned the articulated vehicle to the bush, jumped out but was unfortunately crushed by the vehicle he was driving.”

Confirming the incident, Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Commander Adeoye Irelewuyi attributed the cause of the crash to brake failure.

He said one of the male adults involved in the crash lost his life while the other came out unhurt.

While sympathizing with the family of the dead victim, Irelewuyi urged motoring public to ensure their vehicles were in good condition before plying the road.

He said, “A fatal Crash occurred at the entrance to FRSC Command Ihialla by Ihialla-Onitsha Express way today 4th November, 2021 at about 15:50hours.

“The crash involved one vehicle, a Mark Trailer Commercial, with no registration number.

“The cause of the fatal crash was attributed to brake failure. Two male adults were involved in the crash.

“The victim was rushed to Our Lady’s hospital Ihialla and was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty. His corpse was deposited at the hospital morgue by FRSC rescue team.

“FRSC personnel on ground managed traffic and ensured obstruction caused was cleared.”
