Driver crashes into electric pole, building while avoiding cyclists

A driver of a Toyota Sienna, Moses Udoagwa reportedly sustained serious injury in a motor accident along Awkuzu-Ifite Dunu road, Anambra state.

The victim was said to have rammed into an electric pole and the fence of a building while attempting to avoid hitting the motorcycle and tricycle.

Sector Public Education Officer, Federal Road Safety Corps, Pascal Anigbo, confirmed the crash, attributing it to Speed Limit Violation and Wrongful Overtaking.

He said, “At about 4.50pm today Thursday 18 June, 2020 a serious Road Traffic Crash involving a Toyota Sienna with registration number NKK748Gk driven by one Chinedu Israel ‘m’ and a Sanya Motorcycle with registration number NSK134QM, ridden by one Moses Udoagwa ‘m’.

“According to eyewitnesses, the bike rider was avoiding a Tricycle which was about to pick a passenger and did not notice the Sienna approaching. In an effort to avoid hitting the motorcycle and tricycle, the Toyota Sienna rammed into an electric pole and the fence of a building.

“Three male adults were involved in the crash. One sustained some degree of injury and was rushed to Ideal Hospital Ifite Dunu, by FRSC rescue team from Nteje Unit Command, while the Police is making arrangement for towing of the vehicle to the Station, for further investigation.

“The Sector Commander Federal Road Safety Corps Anambra State, *CC Andrew A. Kumapayi* warns motorists against driving above recommended speed limits.

“They are admonishes to apply “common sense speed limits”, especially within built up areas. Tricycle Operators should desist from picking up passengers indiscriminately along the road. Road Traffic Crashes are avoidable.”
