Don’t take laws into your hands, vigilante group warned

…vigilante group urged not to take laws into their hands or detain any suspects in their custody.

The Nigeria Police Force(NPF) has warned vigilante group members against detaining suspects and taking the law into their hands.

The Kano State Commissioner of Police, Abubakar Lawal(CP) gave this warning when he received the state Commander of Vigilante Group of Nigeria(VGN) in his office.

He noted that the police hierarchy are aware of the contribution of vigilante groups in ensuring the safety and security of Kano State.

“We are very much aware of your contribution to ensuring the safety and security of Kano State. You have to continue with the good work you have been doing,” CP Lawal said.

He however urged the group not to take laws into their hands or detain any suspects in their custody.

“You have to hand over any suspect arrested immediately to the nearest police station.”

CP Lawal urged all the vigilantes working in the state to provide useful information to the police when necessary.

Earlier, the commander of VGN Kano State chapter, Alhaji Shehu Rabiu, said the visit was to seek more police support and cooperation.

“We need your guidance and support in discharging our duties,” he stated.
