…391 government-run schools to benefit from the deworming campaign
LANDIKOTAL: Khyber Pakhunkhwa Deworming campaign drive kicked in government-run schools in district Khyber where children in 391 boys and girls schools would get de-worming tablets in one week.
An officer,Abdul Munim said training sessions for teachers to provide de-worming tablets in various schools have been conducted.He said the deworming drive would cover 391 state schools where around 0.2 million children in state- run schools would get de-worming medicines.He said they would soon also started providing the deworming medicines to private schools in the district.
He said Soil Transmitted Helminths(STH) was the main sources transmittting larwa into the body of children. He said most of the children being infected with worm due various reasons including playing with mud. He said children at the age from 5 to 14 years would be given the de-worming tablets. He said the drive would continue for one week across the province in 22 districts.
The official said the campaign was first started in 2019 and at the first drive 2.9 million were vaccinated. He said due to Corona epidemic in 2019 the de-worming medication drive was postponed.
He said the worm medicine was a safe medicine approved by Interective Research and Developlment(IRD) and World Health Organization(WHO).
Haidar Ali said around 7.8 million children in Pakistan had been infected with worm.
He said children carry three types of worms in their belly including Hook worm, whip worm and round worm. He said the tablet given for worm has no side affects and effected for all kinds of worms in the children’s body. He said Mebendazole 500mg tablets should be given to once a year to children.
Haidar Ali urged parents to send their children to schools so that they will not miss the deworming medication.
