Declare Herders as Terrorists – Gov. Ortom

The Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to declare armed Fulani herders killing people as Terrorists.

This is following persistent attacks in communities in the last two months.

A statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Trevor Akase said the recent attacks took place on Saturday night at Tse-Chembe near Anyin in Logo Local Government where herders killed seven and injured many.

Ortom censured the raid and killings depicting the situation as unacceptable. He said the state had a law forbidding open grazing and only a terrorist group would go against the legislation as herders had done since 2017.

Ortom said, declaring the armed herders Terrorists would end immunity and ensure the rule of law. He called on residents to report any suspicious movement to security agencies.

The Governor also applauded officers and men of operation whirl stroke for their response to distress calls, specifically the incident which took place on Saturday night where Tse-Chembe came under attack.

He assured Benue residents, his administration would not give in to criminal elements.

Ortom also said no threat or attacks would stop enforcement of the Open Grazing Prohibition and Ranches Establishment Law.
