Customs seizes 0.4million USD in six months 

…As Pakistan customs authorities widen its vigilance, increase staff on the border points and at Bacha Khan airport

TORKHAM: On the directives of Prime Minister,Pakistan Customs strated crackdown at Torkham border and foiled three different bids to smuggle foreign currency to Afghanistan on Wednesday, officials said.

Moeenuddin Ahmad Wani, Customs Collector Enforcement Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, told a press conference held at Torkham border that in the past six months they have recovered 0.4 million US dollars at Torkham border and Bacha Khan Airport. He said in last six months they have foiled 36 currency smuggling.

Wani said customs authorities have seized eight thousands US dollars and 10,000 Saudi Riyals at Torkham border on today(Wednesday). He said modern equipments have been installed at to entery and exit points to detact contrabands at Torkham border. 

He said due to fragile economic condition of Pakistan customs authorities have widen its vigilance and increased staff on the border points and at Bacha Khan airport to strictly keep watch on currency smuggling. 

He said for the first time in history women lady searchers have been deployed at Torkham border for searching women passengers. 

“In most of the currency seizers  smugglers had used disable persons,children and women among the passengers to transport currency to Afghanistan from Pakistan”, Wani claimed.  

He said Pakistan custom staff was committed to discourage smuggling from and to Pakistan. He said modern scaners installed to detact contrabands especially currency at Torkham border crossing. Adding that billions of rupess worth other ban items have also seized at Torkham border in the past six months. 

Addtional collector custom Zakir Khan and other customs staff members were also present on the occasion.
