Scores of detained kidnappers, armed robbers, cultists and other criminals on Sunday escaped from the cell of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) of Edo State Police Command in Benin.
Our reporter gathered that the policemen on duty had been arrested and detained on the order of Police Commissioner Babatunde Kokumo.
It was gathered that most of the suspects arrested in the past two months escaped.
It was gathered that criminals are still having a field day in the state despite the activities of personnel of the Joint Security Task Force comprising soldiers, policemen, operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
Kokumo, a newly-promoted Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) and spokesman Chidi Nwabuzor, a Superintendent of Police (SP), declined to react at press time.
