CP flaggs off free prostate cancer screening in Anambra

Anambra State Commissioner of Police, John Abang on Tuesday flagged off free prostate cancer screening and surgical intervention for Police officers above 40years in conjunction with Stanley medical foundation and sponsored by Hon Dozie Nwanlwo.

Speaking during the event at the police headquarters, the CP said the exercise was in line with the resolve of the Inspector-general of Police, Mohammed Abubakar Adamu, to improve the welfare of the Police for effective service delivery through the provision of a Comprehensive health care facilities.

He regretted the nonchalant disposition of most Nigerians to their health, attributing some of the avoidable deaths to such negligence.

He said, “Most times Nigerians die not because of their inability to take care of themselves, but because they only get to know about their illness when it’s already critical.

“For those who are afraid to go for medical check-up, I want to disabuse your mind. Don’t wait until you break down before going for test, it’s a necessity.

“I urge you to take advantage of this one-off opportunity. Be rest assured that the medical personnel will handle your health status with every sense of confidence.”

Appreciating the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu for the initiative, the Commissioner said he was not surprised in view of his (IGP) interest in the welfare of the officers, adding that the state was the first to step down the project.

He also thanked the Stanley Medical Foundation and other sponsors for choosing Anambra State Command as the pilot Command for this laudable initiative.

Also speaking, Commissioner of Health, Vincent Okpala commended the CP for attaching importance to health of the officers, describing the exercise as timely.

“It’s good to note that you’re not only interested in the security of the state, but in the health conditions of your officers.

“It’s also good you’re looking at the issue of prostate cancer which is among the non communicable killer diseases that are not getting much attention,” he added.
