COVID-19:I Have Forgiven Those Who Wished Me Dead ‘ Ikpeazu

Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, on Saturday, said he had forgiven those who wished him dead while he battled for his life after contracting the dreaded coronavirus (COVID-19).

Ikpeazu spoke at a thanksgiving service held in his honour at the Eastern Nigeria Union Conference (ENUC) headquarters of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Umuahia, the Abia State capital, on Saturday.

The governor, who recovered from COVID-19 after about 43 days of contracting the virus, thanked his friends and colleagues for their prayers towards his healing.

According to Ikpeazu, his recovery from the dreaded virus had further strengthened his faith in God.

The governor also thanked the doctors who catered to his health while in isolation in Abuja.

Ikpeazu pledged to support the ongoing building of three thousand capacity Auditorium of the Seventh Day Adventist, Hill Top, Aba.

He thanked the Deputy Governor, Sir Ude Okochukwu, the Speaker, Abia House of Assembly, Rt Hon. Chinedum Enyinnaya Orji, the State Chief Judge, members of the State Executive Council among others who piloted the affairs of the State while he was away, insisting that Abia is the most politically stable State in Nigeria.

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Emmanuel Udom, who attended the thanksgiving service, said God had used Ikpeazu’s experience to prove himself as the only true living God.

Speaking also, the Speaker of Abia State House of Assembly, Orji, thanked God for restoring Ikpeazu’s health and urged him to concentrate on delivering democracy dividends to those who voted him into power.

He said, “God has disappointed all those who wished you death and the same God will continue to uplift you in the service of our people”.

In his sermon titled “O, Taste and See that the Lord is Good”, Dr Bassey Udoh, the President of Eastern Nigeria Union Conference (ENUC) of the Seventh Day Adventist Church, described the event as an opportunity to thank God for His healing mercies upon Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, adding that the Word of God clearly states that the Lord’s faithfulness remains everlasting.

Udoh prayed to God to grant wisdom to Ikpeazu to continue to pilot the affairs of the state.

Other dignitaries in attendance were Governor Sir Ude Oko Chukwu and wife, the State Chief Judge, Justice Onuoha Ogwe, members of Abia State Executive Council, the Governor of Enugu State represented by the SSG Enugu State, and DG South East Governors’ Forum, Professor Uchenna Otuanya, members of the National and State Houses of Assembly, Elder statesmen, among others.
