COVID-19: Chidoka advocates proactive indigenous alternative to total lockdown

Chief Osita Chidoka, a former Minister of Aviation has called on the Federal Government to shun the temptation of adopting advanced countries approach to curtailing the spread of corona virus without working out a buffer that would sustain the masses while in isolation.

Chidoka also called on the Federal Government to dissolve the COVID-19 action committee as presently constituted and set up a new one to be headed by the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo.

He said the country could not afford a total shutdown at the moment without taking into account how the poor and the lowly in the society would survive during the period.

He noted that the critical mass of the Nigerian population rely on daily pay to  survive and as such, have to be protected in the model the government adopts. Chief Chidoka noted  the need for a Nigerian solution that harnesses its strength, overcomes the structural weaknesses while curbing spread of the virus” In his words, “We cannot afford a shut down without clear thinking and plans to mitigate impact on our cash economy where majority are on daily pay. We are not China, US or Italy”
