COVID-19: CBN, GTB, Access, others donate 88trucks of food items to Anambra

Coalition Against COVID-19 (CACOVID), a private sector-led organization comprising the Central Bank of Nigeria, Guarantee Trust Bank, ACCESS bank and other commercial institutions on Thursday donated 88 lorry loads of food items to the Anambra state government to assist her in combating the Coronavirus disease in the state.

The food items including bags of rice, indomie, supergetti, salt and other consumables were to be distributed to the 181 communities in the state.

Speaking earlier on behalf of the CACOVID, the Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele said the gesture was part of the bodies’ Corporate Social Responsibility aimed at ameliorating the hardship being experienced by the masses ocassioned by the pandemic.

Emefiele, represented by Divisional Head, Guarantee Trust Bank, Southeast, Chima Azubuike said a total of 55trucks were delivered, while the remaining 33 would be supplied later.

Receiving the items, the state Governor, Willie Obiano appreciated the organisations for supporting government efforts in cushioning the effects of coronavirus pandemic in the state.

Obiano, represented by his deputy, Dr. Nkem Okeke also thanked the benefactors for chosing the Anambra as the pilot state for the gesture, saying the items would go a long way in assuaging the sufferings of the citizens.

He assured equitable distribution of the items to the 181 communities in the state, just as he appealed for more items as the items would be extended to non indegenes in the state.

“Thanks for listening to our appeal not to wait for when the entire consignment would be ready, while our people are dying of hunger.

“What you’ve donated will be distributed equitably, both indigenes and non indigenes.

Secretary to the state government, Prof. Solo Chukwulobelu confirmed that the state was to receive 88trucks of items, said 55 have so far been delivered, remaining 33 trucks.

One of the beneficiaries, Nkeiru Okoye was full of gratitude to both the benefactor and the state government for the gesture, praying God would bless them immensely.
