Court dismisses lawsuit seeking to declare Ohanaeze Ndigbo illegal

A federal high court in Abuja on Friday dismissed a lawsuit seeking to declare Ohanaeze Ndigbo, as an illegal organization.
In the ruling, Justice Inyang Ekwo, also dismissed a request to arrest, investigate and prosecute the association’s president, Professor George Obiozor and other leaders of the group for alleged contempt.
Justice Ekwo said the appellant, a registered councillor of the Ohanaeze Indigbo General Assembly led by barrister Onuorah Basil Onyeachonam, had alleged that Obiozor and others said the appellant failed to prove that he had committed any offence known to the law to warrant his arrest, investigation and prosecution.
He said after a thorough evaluation of the process presented by the appellants, they failed to establish a prima facie case to justify granting the reliefs sought.
The Ohanaeze Indigbo assembly, led by Onyeachonam, had, in a case marked: FHC/ABJ/CS/56/2021, Obiozor and other leaders of Ohanaeze Indigbo, who emerged from the recently conducted elections, running an illegal organization and had Alleged that they were insulted and offended.
