Conduct election and get arrested – Obiano warns Sports, town union executives

Anambra State governor, Willie Obiano has warned officials of Anambra Football Association, executives of town unions, the security agencies and other stakeholders against their planned conduct of elections.

Obiano who disclosed this through the Secretary to Anambra State Government, Professor Solo Chukwulobelu in a statement, said government was yet to lift ban on the conduct of elections into executive positions by the various associations in the state.

He called security agencies to be at alert to the planned conduct of elections by the Anambra Football Association.

The statement partly read, “This is to remind the public, various sports associations in Anambra State including Anambra Football Association, executives of town unions including ASATU, the security agencies and other stakeholders that Anambra state government has not lifted the ban on the conduct of elections into executive positions by the various associations.

“The ban is necessitated by the need to limit crowd activities and stop the spread of Covid-19 in Anambra state.

“The security agencies are by this notice alerted to the planned conduct of elections by the Anambra Football Association. Such an election is illegal.

“Members of the association and the public are hereby warned to stay away from the venue of the planned illegal election or they would be arrested.

“The security agencies, federal government and Anambra state Covid-19 task force teams have been mandated to visit identified venues of such planned illegal elections and arrest erring officials and members.

“Please support Anambra state government’s efforts to protect Ndi Anambra and stop the spread of Covid-19 in the state.”
