Anambra community celebrates new yam together after 40 years crisis

Peace has been restored in Nawfia community, Njikoka Local Government Area, Anambra State,  after about 40 years of chieftaincy tuzzle amongst the ten villages that make up the community.

Traditional ruler of the community, HRH, Igwe Amb. Daniel Ogochukwu Obelle, (Ezeudo na Nawfia), made this disclosure Monday, in his palace, while fielding questions from newsmen on his one year on the throne.

He said, “On mounting the throne, we settled the quarrels among Umuada Nawfia and subsequently organized general elections for them which produced an executive committee for Umuada Nawfia for the first time in over three decades.

“We celebrated the 2022 new yam festival together in a grand style for the first time in over 40 years, involving all the ten villages of Nawfia. We attracted Njikoka Local Government Area headquarters of Anambra State Vigilante Group to Nawfia.

“We established Nawfia Central Vigilante Group, which ushered in security in the town.Peace is gradually returning to Nawfia. Love and reconciliation are beginning to take root in Nawfia once more.”

The monarch expressed satisfaction that they are working very hard to build on the foregoing to forge unity in order that peace and love will endure in Nawfia.

Acknowledging his community’s acceptance of his monarchy as authentic based on the above achievements, Obelle recalled that on making his one year on the throne few days ago that they worshipped at St Anthony’s Catholic Church and St Michael’s Anglican Church Nawfia, respectivelly, where they thanked God for His mighty blessings to him and Ndi Nawfia general. 

“The week-long celebration culminated in a reception at the Palace which was well attended by the elites and townsfolks. Further more, on Afor market day, we participated in market by patronizing the traders and artisans working at the market, to encourage them and show concern for their abject condition. 

“Thereafter, we undertook the repair of the dilapidated toilets and promised to do more in resolving the challenges facing them. The visit to the market is historic according to observers and chroniclers of Nawfia history,” he stated.

In conclusion of his achievements in one year on the throne, the monarch proceeded to the Model Community Orphanage, Ifite Awka, where he interacted with the children of the Home and made donations of household groceries and cash.
