CLO to Obiano: Redeem your image on Umuchu hospital upgrade

Civil Liberties Organisation (CLO) Anambra state chapter has called on Governor Willie Obiano to redeem his promise on the upgrading of Umuchu General Hospital in Aguata Local Government Area as Centre for Primary Health Insurance Scheme.

The chairman, Vincent Ezekwueme who made the call in a statement, also asked the governor to upgrade the Ugwuakwu Heath Post as general hospital, just as he urged him to direct the contractor handling Ugwuakwu-Ibughubu Umuchu road to go back to site.

He regretted that the road posed great danger to the people of the area due to poor channelling of flooding and erosion caused by torrential downpour.

He said, “We appeal to His Excellency Chief Dr. Willie Obiano to redeem his promise to upgrade Umuchu General Hospital as Centre for Primary Health Insurance Scheme and out of his magnanimity to upgrade Ugwuakwu Heath Post as General hospital.

“We plead with him to direct the contractor handling Ugwuakwu-Ibughubu Umuchu road in Aguata Local Government to go back to site.

“If urgent steps are not taking before the peak of rainy reason it will certainly bring untold hardship, horrendous havoc and threaten the lives and property of inhabitants.

“It is existential reality that the governor has engraved and etched his name in the hearts and minds of people for awarding contract for construction of the road neglected by previous administrations.”

Ezekwueme commended the Bishop of Amichi Diocese, Rt. Rev. Ephraim Ikeakor for his love, care, concern and compassion for the Umuchu community.

He said, “It is of prime importance to note that his yearly Umuchu Prays, the ones in different villages have brought spiritual, economic, financial breakthrough, peace, unity and love in Umuchu.”

He however decried the discovery of 17 new index cases in the state by the Nigeria Center For Disease Control (NCDC).

He added, “We thank those who contributed toward providing palliatives stimulus and security trust funds in the community. I commend the governor for his relentless efforts to contain escalation of dreadful Coronavirus pandemic.

“We solicit for support and solidarity of citizenry in our collective efforts to exterminate Covid-19 by strict adherence to governments and experts directive.

“We regret that during Civil Liberties Organization monitoring of level of compliance, we discovered that social and physical distancing are observed in breach.

“In order to remedy the despicable situation conceited efforts must be made to do the needful and restore normalcy by strict observation of all Covid-19 prevention protocols.”
