Christmas: UBWA, CWO to empower 2,000 widows, others

…the UBWA and CWO partnership is targeted at empowering widows and women

The United Business Women Association of Nigeria and Diaspora (UBWA) on Monday said it is partnering the Catholic Women Organisation (CWO), Basilica of the Most Holy Trinity, Onitsha, Anambra State to empower over 2000 women, including widows.

The Founder of UBWA, Dr. Nkiruka Duru who disclosed this after a courtesy visit by a 6-member executive/delegation of CWO led by its President, Pharm. Ifeyinwa Onochie, said the synergy would help to promote women’s welfare in the state.

She said the partnership is targeted at empowering the widows and women targeted at assuaging their sufferings, especially during the Christmas celebration.

She urged spirited individuals and corporate organisations to support the group with donations and food items to help lift the widows and women in the state.

She said, “Christmas is here again; it is a time to show love and help the needy. Our women are going through a lot in the country due to the economic hardship.

“The association is keen about service to God and humanity, and we will love to bequeath a legacy like Esther in the bible.

“Part of our mandate is to alleviate people’s sufferings; and with the partnership the CWO has come to offer, we hope to lift as much as over 2,000 widows and women during the festive period.”

The UBWA, a non-governmental organisation, founded two years ago with over 100,000 members nationwide and over 500 members in 20 countries, has empowered over 1,000 widows, women and youths with various skills and equipment for self-reliance.
