CBI arrests 10 for spreading child-porn on social media

The Central Bureau of Investigation CBI on Tuesday conducted a search in several locations across 14 states in India in connection with an investigation into child sexual exploitation and child pornography. 

According to sources, CBI has already arrested 10 accused persons in the case. They are accused of placing child pornography in online stores and spreading same online. 

The Central Bureau of Investigation is the premier investigating agency of India, operating under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, Government of India. 

As per the CBI press release, the agency conducted searches at around 77 locations in 14 states in connection with 23 separate cases registered against 83 accused on November. 

It is learned that they used to spread child pornography through various social media platforms. Foreign nationals from different countries are also involved in the business of child pornography in India, according to CBI sources. 

In a press statement issued after  search, CBI officials said that more than 50 gangs of criminals were working to spread child pornography in India. More than 5,000 criminals are involved in this. These are the ones who regularly share or forward child pornography through social media.

The CBI said “The accused have been spreading sexual harassment videos, photos and writings on child porn through various social media groups. The criminal gangs in the country and abroad carry out such activities by keeping in touch with each other.”

“It was also alleged that persons were disseminating Child Sexual Exploitation Material (CSEM) by way of sharing links, videos, pictures, texts, posts and hosting of such content on social media groups/platforms and third-party storage/hosting platforms,” it added.

As per the release, a number of electronic gadgets/mobiles/laptops, etc. have been recovered during searches so far. It is revealed that some individuals were involved in the trading of CSEM material.
