A commercial bus driver lost his life in a fatal accident at Okeohia by Ihialla-Owerri expressway of Anambra State.
The accident which occurred Sunday evening, involved a commercial bus and articulated truck.
An eye witness said the bus driver conveying illegal crude oil (bunkery) was on to speed when he suddenly rammed into a stationary trailer.
“The trailer driver on seeing what has happened, immediately entered his vehicle and drove off immediately before we could capture the vehicle details,” he said.
Confirming the incident, Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Corps Commander Adeoye Irelewuyi said one person died in the crash, attributing the crash to excessive speed.
He sympathized with the deceased family, urging motorist to maintain safe speed limit.
He said, “A fatal Road traffic crash happened at Okeohia by Ihialla-Owerri express way today 7th November, 2021 at about 15:06hrs.
The crash was between two vehicles, a commercial bus with Regitration No: NKK-314-VT and articulated vehicle no registration number
“The probable cause of the fatal crash was attributed to Excessive Speed which led to loss of Control.
“Five persons were involved in the crash, comprising four male adult, and one female adult.
“The corpse was taken to Our Lady’s Mortuary Ihialla after being confirmed dead by the doctor on duty. Efforts is being made by FRSC rescue team and Police men from Ihialla Police Division to tow the vehicle off the road.
“However, there’s free flow of vehicular movements.”
