BREAKING: Properties destroyed as fire guts one storey building in Abagana

Indigenes of Umudunu village, Abagana, in Njikoka Local Government Area were this morning, thrown into panic as an entire flat in the first floor of a one-storey residential building was gutted by fire.

THE DAILY VENDOR gathered that the inferno, which started around 9:15am from one of the rooms in the building, spread within minutes to other rooms including the parlour and properties worth millions destroyed.

A statement released by the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Haruna Mohammed, confirmed the incidence.

“Today 5/5/2020 at about 9:am, there was a fire outbreak at a Storey building belonging to Late Chief Bernard Okonkwo of Umudunu village, Abagana in Njikoka LGA of Anambra State,” the PPRO said.

“Following the distress call, Police patrol team led by DPO Abagana Division CSP Prince Ugochukwu Ezejiofor rushed to the scene and alerted the fire service department who responded swiftly and extinguished the fire”.

SP Haruna also noted that the area has been cordoned off by the Police to prevent hoodlums from taking advantage of the situation to loot.

Cause of fire is yet unknown, although no loss of life and no casualty recorded.

Investigation is on, to ascertain circumstances surrounding the incident.
