BREAKING: One hospitalized as Truck suffers brake failure in Anambra

Two persons were said to have escaped death after a Mercedes Benz Truck lost it’s brake and crashed at Oyeagu junction, in Njikoka Local Government Area, along the Onitsha – Awka old road in Anambra State.

RC Pascal A. Anigbo, the Sector Public Education Officer, for the Federal Road Safety Corps, Anambra State Command, who confirmed this to THE DAILY VENDOR said the lone accident happened at about 11:45am Thursday, and it involved a Mercedes Benz truck with registration number GBJ 189 XA.

Anigbo attributed cause of the crash to brake failure.

He said “At about 11.45am today Thursday 7 May, 2020 a Mercedes Benz Truck with registration number GBJ198XA was involved in a lone Road Traffic Crash caused by ‘Brake Failure”.

Continuing Anigbo said the accident had two male adults as victims, but no life was lost.

He however noted that one of the victims sustained some degree of injury and was immediately rushed to the hospital by sympathizers shortly before the arrival of FRSC rescue team.

“The crash which occurred near Oyeagu Junction along Awka-Onitsha Old Road, also involved Two victims (adult males). No death was recorded, but one of the victims sustained some degree of injury and was rushed to Ebelechukwu Hospital, Ifitedunu, by sympathizers, before the arrival of the rescue team from Nteje Unit Command.”

“Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force and the FRSC on traffic control duties ensured that obstruction caused was cleared and subsequent resumption of normal traffic flow.

“The Sector Commander Federal Road Safety Corps Anambra State, CC Andrew A. Kumapayi reiterates the importance of ensuring that vehicles are checked and serviced regularly. This will enable vehicle owners and drivers to detect failing components on time, especially the brakes. Most Road Traffic Crashes are avoidable.” Anigbo said.
