Blackout in Anambra over transformer vandalism

Residents of Awka and its environs in Anambra state have been thrown into darkness following the vandalization of Nibo 11kv feeder of the Enugu Electricity Distribution PLC (EEDC).

Customers in Ogidi and environs, would also experience power outage following a fault that occurred at her 15MVA power transformer located at the Ugwunwasike Injection Substation, which has affected power supply to Ogidi, Ezeowelle, Ogbunike, Awkuzu, Nkpor, Toll Gate, Machine Parts, Afor Igwe, Umunachi, Oye Orisa, and Alben Industries.

In a statement issued by the Head, Corporate Communications, Emeka Ezeh, the power firm apologized for the inconveniences these situations have caused its customers, assuring them of continued commitment towards delivering improved services.

The statement read in part, “The Enugu Electricity Distribution PLC (EEDC), regrets to inform her esteemed customers in parts of Awka, Anambra State, that the loss of supply currently being experienced is as a result of vandalism at the Nibo 11kv feeder.

“The incident which occurred in the late hours of Saturday, 7th November, 2020 has thrown our customers in the affected areas into darkness.

“As a result of this development, the entire Nibo, Mbaukwu, Isiagu and Umuawulum communities are out of electricity supply.

“In a related development, EEDC also informs her esteemed customers in Ogidi and environs, of a fault that occurred at her 15MVA power transformer located at the Ugwunwasike Injection Substation, which has affected power supply to Ogidi, Ezeowelle, Ogbunike, Awkuzu, Nkpor, Toll Gate, Machine Parts, Afor Igwe, Umunachi, Oye Orisa, and Alben Industries.

“Our team of engineers are currently working assiduously to replace the vandalised items at Nibo 11KV Feeder, as well as clear the fault at 15MVA power transformer at Ugwunwasike Injection Substation and restore supply to customers in the affected areas.

“We apologize for the inconveniences these situations have caused our esteemed customers and assure them of our continued commitment towards delivering improved services.”
