Atiku Gives Reasons Why Fuel Price Should Be Lower

Former Vice President of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar, on Tuesday, added his voice to the widespread protests on the recent increment of the pump price of petrol by the Nigerian government.

Atiku stated that from an economic viewpoint, the hike was not necessitated.

The DAILY VENDOR recalls that the federal government through the Petroleum Products Marketing Company (PPMC) had announced a new ex-depot price of N151.56 for petrol.

The Presidency while reacting to the increment, had blamed the hike on COVID-19 pandemic.

They hinged the decision on the outbreak which led the nation to an economic downturn, thereby making it difficult for the country to fund its budget.

In his tweet, the 2019 Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), wrote: “I am a businessman. I look at things from an economic perspective. Questions beg for answers. The price of crude is down from where it was in 2019. In the US and Europe, fuel prices are far lower than they were in 2019. If we truly deregulated, shouldn’t fuel price have dropped?”
