The Academic Staff Union of Universities(ASUU), on Monday threatened legal action against Department State Security(DSS) over alleged assault on its Kano zonal coordinator, Professor Abdulkadir.
ASUU Kano Zonal Coordinator, Professor Abdulkadir had a rough encounter with alleged DSS officials on August 18th along Kano eastern bypass.
A press statement by the Union that was jointly signed by Professor Haruna Musa and Dr. Yusuf Umar, Chairman, and Secretary respectively described the attack as unfortunate, tragic, despicable and embarrassing.
The statement noted that “the union is ready to deploy all the available legal and legitimate instruments to ensure that justice is done on the matter.”
ASUU stated that “the statutory responsibility of security personnel is to protect lives and property of people, not to harass, intimidate and assault innocent citizens”.
It recalled that “sometimes in 2012, they invaded ASUU -BUK secretariat at old campus and assaulted our then Kano Zonal Coordinator and immediate past branch chairperson in their attempt to abduct him”
ASUU therefore urged the DSS to investigate the matter and bring the perpetrators to book in order to stop the anarchy, torture and harassment of innocent Nigerians.
