Gunmen suspected of being bandits have reportedly invaded the camp of the Joint Security Task Force, consisting of the Army, Police, Civil Defense and Rangers in Allawa and opened fire on them, killing a number not revealing of soldiers in the process in the state of Niger.

An officer from the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) was also killed in the attack, while many security personnel were injured.

They also kidnapped more than 10 people, stole seven motorcycles and burned military vehicles in attacks on Wednesday and early Thursday.

The communities attacked by the bandits are Allawa, Manta, Gurmana, Bassa and Kokki in Shiroro’s council.

Eyewitnesses said bandits attacked the villages of Manta, Gurmana and Bassa on Wednesday, where they killed an Alhaji Sale in the Madalla community and kidnapped four people.

In reaction to the incident, the president of the Shiroro Youth Movement, Mohammed Sani Idris, said the bandits, in the hundreds, were armed with AK47s and attacked communities for about five hours without being challenged.

“Also in Kokki Boddo, a community under the Gurmana neighborhood, they kidnapped six people and took five motorcycles, five people were also kidnapped in the Manta neighborhood,” said Idris.
