APC Crisis: Buhari Intervenes, Meets Oshiomhole, Party Chairmen – Fox Channel

…The meetings are part of efforts to avoid the disintegration of APC after Buhari’s administration.”

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomhole, is set to lead state chairmen of the party to meet with President Muhammadu Buhari today, Friday.

Governors elected on the platform of the APC had Thursday, met behind closed doors with the President. In attendance for the meeting were Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo and the Chief of Staff to the President, Mr Abba Kyari.

The national chairman of the party, Oshiomhole who was expected at the meeting was absent.

The meetings are not unconnected to the crisis rocking the party at various levels in Edo, Bayelsa, Ondo states.

A chieftain of the party, who confided in a reporter, said, “The two meetings are part of efforts to avoid the party’s disintegration after Buhari’s administration.”

Recall that Buhari, at the APC National Executive Committee meeting last month, urged all members to unite.

Buhari said history would not be fair to members if the party collapsed after his administration. He said history would be fair to the APC if the party remained strong, by not only holding the centre but also making gains.

But an associate of Oshiomhole said he was not formally invited to the meeting of Thursday and so couldn’t have been expected at the meeting.

He said, “It was a meeting with the APC governors so the national chairman was not supposed to be at the meeting. It is Friday that he will be leading the state chairmen to see the President.”
