Angry Residents Boo Buhari in Borno During His Sympathy Visit

Angry Borno residents, on Wednesday, booed President Muhammadu Buhari, as his convoy drove through Maiduguri, the state capital.

Buhari, upon returning from a five-day trip to Ethiopia for an African Union summit, paid a condolence visit to the north-eastern state, following a Boko Haram attack.

Though Buhari and his aides had repeatedly told Nigerians that Boko Haram was defeated, the terrorists killed 30 and abducted several women and children in a raid last Sunday.

The attack reportedly targeted the village of Auno on a key highway, linking Maiduguri.

At least 18 vehicles comprising trailers, buses, and cars were said to have been burnt by the insurgents, who laid siege to their village about 9.50 pm on Sunday.

In viral videos on Twitter, residents, including children, could be seen expressing their disapproval as the President’s convoy drove past.

They could be heard chanting, “Bama yi! Bama so! (We don’t want! We are not doing!)”

One user said, Mansur Ahmed, said, “Kai, not so good for Mr Integrity @MBuhari. These people are not asking for too much, are they @NigeriaGov?”

Similarly, @SGezee, stated, “From this video here the power is really angry.”

Abubakar Mohammed also said, “We have to express our opinion because we want justice.”

Adamu Sadiq noted, “Our eyes are open. Now, this is a clear warning to the leaders (that) they should better take note.”
