Anambra youths protest death of Octogenarian

Scores of youths in Ifiteani, Agulu in Anaocha LGA of Anambra State on Tuesday protested death of an 80 years old woman in the area.

The deceased, Mrs Mgbeke Ezeagha reportedly died during arrests by operatives attached to the Command Special Anti-cult section (SPACS) in the area.

The protesters were said to have barricaded roads leading to the town, thereby causing traffic gridlock and untold hardship on motorists and commuters.

Reacting to the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, Haruna Mohammed said the commissioner of Police, John Abang had ordered for a full scale investigation into the matter.

He said, “On 9/06/2020 at about 6:am, aggrieved youth in Agulu town went on rampage and barricaded roads, protesting over the sudden death of late Mrs Mgbeke Ezeagha ‘f’ aged 80 years of Ifiteani, Agulu in Anaocha LGA of Anambra State.

“The youth who alleged that her death was due to arrests made by operatives attached to the Command Special Anti-cult section (SPACS) following a tip off were persuaded to disperse peacefully through the joint efforts of the Police and community stakeholders.

“Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police CP John Abang who is deeply saddened by the unfortunate incident has ordered for a full scale investigation into the matter.

“The CP further assures the public that justice would be done in the case and the outcome of Police investigation shall be made public.”
