Residents of Awka, Anambra state capital and its environs have been thrown into total darkness following fire outbreak at the Agu-Awka Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) Station.
This is coming on the heels of preparations by residents to spend the Easter celebrations with their family members.
Head, Corporate Communications, Enugu Electricity Distribution Company PLC (EEDC), Emeka Ezeh, in a statement on Friday, said the incident which occurred on April 6, disrupted supply to all 11KV outgoing feeders: UNIZIK 11KV, Awka Industrial 11KV, Ifite 11KV, and Amansea 11KV.
He however said the TCN engineers were already on standby to restore supply as soon as the fault was addressed, assuring its customers of continued commitment to providing improved services.
He said, “The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company PLC (EEDC) wishes to inform her esteemed customers in Anambra State that the loss of supply currently being experienced in some parts of the state is as a result of a fire outbreak at the Agu-Awka TCN Station.
“The incident which occurred at 12:10am of 6th April 2023, resulted to loss of supply in Agu-Awka Injection Substation, disrupting supply to all our 11KV outgoing feeders: UNIZIK 11KV, Awka Industrial 11KV, Ifite 11KV, and Amansea 11KV.
“As a result of the development, our customers in UniZik, Bryan, Juhel, Millennium areas, Umuayom, Umunnoke, Umuoranma, Umuokpu, Amachala, Abagana, Umudiaba, Agbana, Umunna moke, Amudo, Enu-Ifite, Ezinato- Ifite, Abagana-Ifite, GRA, Agu Awka, back of UniZik Hostel along Amansea Ifite road, Egbeagu, Umuokpara, Orede, Holy Family, Ebenebe, Ugbenu, Ugbene, Orba Ofemmiri, and other environs are out of electricity supply.
“The TCN engineers are already at work, and we are on standby to restore supply as soon as the fault is addressed.
“We assure our esteemed customers of our continued commitment to providing improved services.”
