ANAMBRA: Jubilation as normalcy returns to Umumbo & Omoh communities

Indigenes of Umumbo and Omor communities in Ayamelum Local Government Area of Anambra State, have be been thrown into jubilation as peace returns in the lands.

It would be recalled that on May 5th, 2020 there was a communal crisis between the two communities. As a result of the crisis, many residents of the area fled their homes to the neighbouring villages for safety.

A press statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, Anambra State Command, SP Haruna Mohammed, obtained by THE DAILY VENDOR reads in part:

“Following the restoration of peace in the affected Communities through the efforts of the Anambra State Government, Joint Security Forces, Vigilante groups, traditional rulers, Youth leaders and Ayamelum leaders of thought, the residents have finally returned back to their respective homes and normalcy restored”.

“Meanwhile, the commissioner of Police, CP John B. Abang,fdc has assured that the situation is being monitored closely and further peace initiatives are still ongoing to restore permanent peace in the affected areas.

“Consequently, the Commissioner of Police thanked His Excellency Governor Willie Obiano, the Hon Speaker Anambra State House of Assembly, Honourable Uche Okafor, traditional Rulers and all the Stakeholders whose efforts helped immensely in restoring peace in the area and prevented the crisis from escalating,” it said.

The CP further enjoined the citizens to eschew violence and always explore the legal avenues towards addressing their grievances in order to avert breakdown of law and order adding that the Police is committed towards enhancing safety and security for all Ndi Anambra and residents alike in the State.
