Anambra govt threatens to revoke licences of abattoir operators with unhygienic environment

…says operation of Abattoirs in the state would no longer be business as usual

Anambra State Commissioner for Environment, Engr. Felix Odimegwu has decried deplorable condition and unhygienic nature of some Abattoirs in the state.

Odimegwu who gave the warning during a meeting of all abattoir operators in the State at the Jerome Udoji Secretariat, Awka, warned operators that their licenses would be revoked if they did not turn a new leaf.

Odimegwu who was represented by Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Ngozi Iwuno, said that the operation of Abattoirs in the state would no longer be business as usual.

He said the meeting was in line with the vision of Governor Chukwuma Soludo in creating a clean and healthy environment in all the sectors of the state.

He assured regular inspection of slaughterhouses in the state by Public Health Officers who would mete out severe punishment to defaulters.

“This is in line with the governor’s directive which mandates the operators to sanitize and restructure their operations to be in line with the Solution’s vision of obtaining a clean and healthy Anambra state.

“From time to time, Public Health Officers will be going for inspections in all our abattoirs and defaulters will be severely punished,” he said.
