Anambra govt arrest fake doctors, seal hospitals

…warns those operating illegally and parading themselves as medical doctors to close down their hospitals

Two fake medical doctors have been arrested by Anambra State government in Alor and Adazi-Enu in Idemili South and Anaocha Local Government Area of the state respectively.

The two suspects, Anayo Okwara of Bright Land Hospital and Maternity Limited and Igwe Ogbonna of Favour of God Hospital and Maternity operating illegally in the state also had their facilities sealed off.

Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidike who disclosed this to reporters on Saturday, warned those operating illegally and parading themselves as medical doctors to close down their hospitals or face full wrath of the law.

He restated that the current administration of Gov. Charles Soludo would not relent in its effort to flush out unqualified doctors and those operating illegally across the state.

“The objective of the exercise is not to witch hunt anyone but rather to ensure standards both in Government and Private Hospitals in the state.

“The ministry has already closed down five hospitals for operating illegally and being run by quacks. Anambra is not a place for quacks to practice,” he said.

Appreciating immediate past and current Presidents General of Alor Community for their hardwork which led to the success of the exercise, Obidike urged residents to be vigilant and to monitor activists in their various communities.

The arrest was led by the Commissioner, in company of security operatives, as well as members of Anambra Joint Enforcement Team (ANJET) led by its State Coordinator, Air Vice Marshall Ben Chiobi (Rtd) represented by Director of Operations of the team, Mazi Chukwuma Okpalezeukwu.
