Anambra Fire Chief bags AfriSAFE Award of Excellence

Director of Anambra State Fire Services, Engr Agbili Martin has been awarded AfriSAFE Excellence in Fire and Life Safety Award (Gold).

The award presentation held in Lagos was in recognition of Agbili’s services to the community.

The Fire Chief clinched the Gold Plaque Award in firefighter category together with Roberts Mulaudiz (Firefighter) of South Africa.

AfriSAFE Award was targeted at extolling and projecting the silent but excellent work that Safety practitioners were doing across the continent.

The award is an Annual Award project committed to celebrating the best of Health, Safety and Wellbeing professionals and their achievements in keeping our facilities and lives safety. It aims also to be unifying industry catalysts for Africans.

Responding, Agbili expressed appreciation to Almighty God who made the feat possible as well as family members, friends, well-wishers, Firefighters, Engineers, Safety Professsionals, Security Professsionals, Ndi Anambra, Nigerians, Africans and People of the World for nominating him for the award.

He said, “I specially dedicate this AWARD to my diligent Late Mentor, PROF. DORA AKUNYILI. Your legacies as Onye Anambra can never be forgotten.

“The award category is AfriSAFE Excellence in Fire and Life Safety Award (GOLD)

“AfriSAFE Excellence in Fire and Life Safety Award recognizes individuals that have dedicated themselves to saving lives and property through acts of bravery, development of codes, fire-prevention practices and leadership techniques

“In this category of Award, 35 entries (nominations) were received from across Africa but only 5 out of the 35 were shortlisted.

“Out of the 5 shortlisted Engr. Dr Martin Agbili (Fire Chief) of Anambra State, Nigeria and Roberts Mulaudiz (Firefighter) of South Africa won the Gold Plaque Award.

“Thank you Almighty God who made it possible. Thank you my family members, friends, well-wishers, Firefighters, Engineers, Safety Professsionals, Security Professsionals, Ndi Anambra, Nigerians, Africans and People of the World for nominating me for this award.

“I want to also thank His Excellency Chief Willie Obiano for all his support and the platform he gave me to excel to this greater height.

Agbili is a luminous and glowing expert in fire safety management and security employed into Anambra State Fire Service, Nigeria in1997 and he is still in active service. Currently, he is the Director/Fire Chief of Anambra State Fire Service.

He is an electrical/safety engineer with 24 years working experience in fire fighting, fire safety management, security, disaster management and Health Safety & Environment.

He had his first degree in Electrical Engineering and majored in power and machines. Martin Agbili has a Diploma in Project Management and Masters Degree in Disaster Risk Management (DRM). He also a graduate of Administrative Staff College of Nigeria (ASCON) where obtained a certificate on Administration.

He was awarded a Doctor of Development and Peace by International Diplomatic Organization. He is the Africa Continent Regional Coordinator for International Fire Fighters Day. In March 2021, he received an International recognition as he was appointed a World Peace Ambassador (WPA). On 11th May, 2021, he became the first Nigerian Fire Chief to be admitted into the International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC).

Martin Agbili has won many awards locally, nationally and internationally. He is a fellow and member of more that 15 professsional bodies.
