Anambra Community Disowns Petition Against Ngige

The leaders of Alor Community, Idemili South local government area of Anambra State, have disowned a petition to President Muhammadu Buhari against the Minister of Labour and Employment, Sen. Chris Ngige.

The former Governor of Anambra State, Ngige hails from the said Community.

A statement Tuesday signed by the traditional Prime Minister, Chief Nathan Ezekwesili and the president general of Alor people’s Assemble APA Sir Uzoma Igbonwa, said there was no such petition

The statement was made available to reporters Tuesday in Awka, Anambra State, where the Community declared its total support for the Hon. Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige.

Before now, an open letter to President Buhari had circulated on social media authored by one Christian Okudo as Alor caretaker chairman and co-signed by one Chief Chukwuemeka Udeze, purporting to be Onowu of Alor, appealing to Buhari to caution Ngige, alleging that he had been causing disunity in the area.

The Community alleged that those writing petitions were same persons who staged a week-long film show at Alor market square during the 2015 general elections against APC and Buhari during the presidential election, where the party was described as Boko Haram.

The leaders, dismissed the allegation by the petitioners that Ngige was intimidating the people of Alor, adding that the Minister stood for the rule of law, justice and equity.

They maintained Ngige had no reason to allow himself or his followers to lend themselves to community destabilization or give chance to the enemies of Ndi-Alor to prevail.

On the claim by the petitioners that Alor town is littered with abandoned projects, the leaders said Ngige had made the Community now christened,” Alor London”

“Ngige brought Rural Electrification as a civil servant in 1987 when his friend, Engr Bunu Sherif Musa was the Minister of Power, Mines and Steel, and further took it to phase two under the administration of Col. Herbert Obi-Eze as the Military Administrator of the old Anambra State.

“The town union equally recalled that Ngige’s diligent service at the Ministry of Health caught the attention of his then Minister, Prof. Olikoye Ransom Kuti, that he (Kuti) paid a working visit to Alor on Easter Monday, April 1987, and upgraded the then Alor Rural Health Centre to a comprehensive Health Centre.

“There is no single infrastructural project in Alor that does not bear Ngige’s imprint either as Governor, Senator or even as a Minister.

The people stressed that all the major roads from all corners of Anambra State into Alor and all inner village roads, except few, were done by him.

“Today, President Muhammadu Buhari has as a reward for his sterling stewardship approved anti-erosion roads and drainages in Alor and even extended it to the neighbouring communities of Nnobi in Idemili South and Umudioka in Dunukofia L.G.A,” the leaders said
