Anambra Assembly speaker escapes auto crash in Anambra

Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Uche Okafor survived a ghastly motor accident at Agu-Awka junction in Awka, Anambra State.

The accident which occurred Saturday night, left his car damaged beyond repair.

The Daily Vendor gathered that the crash was the second happening in the area within the same period.

A source said former Managing Director of Anambra Signage, Chief Jude Emecheta, was earlier involved in an accident at the same junction which left him unconscious, while his car was damaged beyond repair.

The source said, “The Speaker was on his way home when he got an emergency call from Emecheta’s friend. He quickly rushed to the accident scene and took Emecheta to the hospital.

“On his way home from the hospital, the speaker stopped at the accident scene to pick important documents and personal belongings of Emecheta left in his damaged vehicle to avoid losing them to vandals.

“He was still picking the materials when another trailer lost control following brake failure and rammed into Emecheta’s car while the Speaker was still inside.”

The source further revealed that the speeding trailer also hit the speaker’s own parked vehicle, adding that neither the Speaker, nor his aides sustained any injury.

Confirming the incident, Speaker thanked God for the miracle, adding, “None of us was hurt, it would have been disastrous, but we thank God.”

He however said Emecheta has been responsive to treatment.

“Jude was unconscious when I got to the accident scene. So, we took him to the hospital in my vehicle and he was responding to treatment before we left,” he added.
