A top contender of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2021 governorship election in Anambra State, Mr. Valentine Ozigbo on Friday said he was ready to forgo his political ambition to support anyone that emerged the party candidate.
He said he would support any person that emerged the party flag bearer as long as the primary was free, fair and credible.
Addressing journalists at the PDP secretariat, Awka Anambra state capital on Friday, Ozigbo however said his ambition was to emerge the consensus candidate of the party during the governorship primary election.
Ozigbo said the sign was already there given the massive support and endorsement he received wherever he went.
According to him, he was more interested in united and strong PDP than taking over the government house in Anambra.
He said, “I am seeking for conscious candidate of the party and when that is achieved, what we used to experience in the Party in the past will no longer be the case.
“However, if the outcome of primary does not favour me, provided it is fair and transparent, which I know it is going to be , I will continue to support PDP, not only for the governorship election but for all elections and activities of the party.
“Like I told the party officials, i need the PDP to win election just like PDP needs me to get the Anambra state government house, Agu Akwa. I need PDP to win election and PDP needs somebody strong and generally accepted like me to win election to take over government house.”
Ozigbo during the meeting also donated N5 million for regular local government chapter meetings to be held in his name.
He said he wanted to ensure that the party was energised, stressing he was confident in his ability to energise and build confidence in the party.
According to him, now the aspirants know the party delegates to the primaries and it is left for the aspirants to warm themselves into their hearts.
On his outings so far, Ozigbo said: “We are clear contenders. As we go into the wards they know my capacity to organize people. Majority of delegates have fallen in love with me.
“My mission is to unite Anambra people. I am seeking to be a consensus candidate of the party. This is my dream and it is achievable.
“Once it is achieved we won’t have the kind of thing we had in the past.
“But no matter what happens, I will continue to support PDP Whether I win or not, my interest is for PDP to occupy Agu Awka.
“God has given me everything I need and even the resources to contest and win.
“What PDP needs is to bring some one who can bring people together”
