Anambra 2021: APC has no annoited candidate – Uzodinma

The Imo state governor, Senator Hope Uzodinma on Saturday said the November 6 election was a must win for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.

He regretted that APC had played second fiddle in the state politics for long time, despite the caliber of men that constituted the party.

Addressing party faithful in Awka, Uzodinma also assured aspirants eyeing the governorship seat in the state that the party had no annoited candidate.

He urged them to go and look for the people rather than look for the leadership to influence their votes, maintaining that whoever the people gave the party that would be returned back to them.

He said, “APC can’t continue to sink in the ship of the opposition party. We must be ready to take the initiative to win the state in the Nov. 6 election. But it can only be possible if we’re united.

“It’s the desire for peace and unity in the party that brought us here, for the sole purpose of reconciling the different groups. We know all of them that prefer to work alone. Our main job is to reconcile all of them.

“When we achieve this, it will help us in strengthening the party ahead of the registration exercise, Congress and Convention and the election proper.

“Peace in the party will also help us organise a credible primary that will produce the party flagbearer. A transparent primary will guarantee they rally round to support the winner.

“Let me make it very clear for the people of South East that that November election is a must win for APC. The South East must mobilize forces known and unknown to ensure that election is won for APC. There are many rooms to accommodate all at the national body.

Describing the election as a football game, Uzodinma urged aggrieved members to sheate their swords, insisting that the election could not be won when members were playing independently.

He added, Federal appointment under the new arrangement must be left for the people in the party. We’ll work with our ministers and leaders to ensure those who work for the party will be adequately compensated and rewarded.

“Making Anambra APC one strong united peaceful family is an issue we can’t disagree on. We must put our differences aside for us to win the election.

“Division will never give us victory. We need the victory to reconnect the state to the national grid and catapult us to the national politics.

“Anambra is the first port of call in the reconciliation process in view of its strategic importance in the zone.

“We’re here to listen to all of you and ascertain what the problem is an profer solution, urging all to be sincere in their submission, assuring the neutrality and transperacy of the committee.

“The party at all levels would not impose any candidate on you. Nobody has annoited anybody. We’ll return the party to the people who will choose their leaders who will emerge through transparent primary.

“I plead with those interested in becoming the governor of the state to go and look for the people rather than look for us to influence your votes. It’s whoever the people give to us the party will give back to them.

Also speaking, former Senate President, Senator Ken Nnamani applauded the Imo state Governor for his role in the party since he joined.

He said, “Uzodinma presence has added impetus. Brought lot of respect to our zone. Thought it was a handful. Shows excitement and enthusiasm, no longer derogatorily referred.

“Anambra is the pride of Igbo nation and shows let of industry and Economy. They must show interest in national politics, we can’t continue to play local politics.

“Revalidation of voters registration must be taken seriously. We have a veteran in Imo in the person of Osita Izunaso.

Among the dignitaries that attended the meeting were Ogbonnaya Onu, Chris Ngige, Ken Nnamani, Sharon Ikeazor, Uche Ogah, Nwajiuba, Andy Uba, George Moghalu
