Algeria’s President, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, has tested positive for COVID-19.
This was disclosed by the Algerian presidency on Tuesday, ending days of speculation over the health of the 74-year-old leader.
The statement said the Tebbourne “continues to receive treatment in a specialised German hospital after catching the COVID-19 illness.
“The medical team is reassured that the president is responding to treatment and gradually recovering.”
The President was transferred to a hospital in Germany last week, days after going into self-isolation.

So far, Algeria has officially confirmed more 58,979 cases, with nearly 2,000 deaths.
