Accident caused by govt revenue collectors claims four lives in Onitsha

Four pedestrians were on Wednesday morning crushed dead in Onitsha, Anambra State in an accident caused by government revenue collectors.

This fact was made public by the Public Education Officer of the Anambra State Sector of FRSC, Florence N. Edor (SRC) in a press statement.

Edor said that at about 7.30am four female pedestrians were crushed to death by a blue M/ Benz truck with registration number XF 259 UNZ driven by an un identified driver.

She said that an eyewitnesses account indicated that the truck driver had a disagreement with the revenue collectors at Upper Iweka flyover and the truck rolled back and crushed the four female hawkers along the road.

The FRSC Public Education Officer said that rescue team from her organization, Nigeria Army and Nigeria Police rushed the victims to Toronto hospital where they were confirmed dead by doctors on duty.

She pointed out that the driver of the vehicle has been handed over to the police for further investigation.

Meanwhile, The Anambra State Sector Commander of FRSC Andrew A Kumapayi(SC) has sent his condolences to the families of the victims and admonished pedestrians to be mindful of the dangers associated with the road especially hawking close to the highways.

It would be recalled that Anambra State government has announced the ban on collection of revenue on the highway after similar incident in the past.
