Gunmen Abduct Five, Injure Policemen in a gunfight in Adamawa

Four policemen, on Tuesday, sustained gunshot injuries during exchange of gunfire, while attempting to rescue two women from the hands of gunmen, who stormed their residence and whisked them away along with three of their children.

According to reports, the abduction, occurred in the Ganye Local Government Area of Adamawa state, and was reported to the police, who trailed the kidnappers and engaged them in a gun duel.

Alhaji Husseini Ahmadu, who witnessed the invasion of the residence adjacent to the Federal Government College, Ganye, said the gunmen gained entry into the residence around 2am.

He said the bandits overpowered the security men guarding the residence and abducted at gunpoint his brother’s two wives along with the three infants they were nursing.

Ahmadu stated, “Residents where awoken by the pandemonium amidst gunshots, which greeted the area, as the kidnappers, who came in large numbers and with sophisticated weapons, carried out their operations.

“We later alerted the police and soldiers in the town, who accosted the kidnappers, leading to a serious exchange of gunfire at Buwangal.

“During the heavy exchange of fire, four policemen were injured. The injured policemen have been taken to the Ganye Hospital, while the kidnappers succeeded in taking away their victims.”

The state police command confirmed the abduction of the five victims, adding that they were the wives and children of a renowned businessman in the area.
