46 Okada Riders Arrested Over Attack on Task Force Official – Fox Channel

The Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Unit has arrested 46 Okada riders for allegedly attacking and injuring some of its officials in the Oshodi area of the state.

Total of 241 motorcycles were also impounded.

The Chairman of the task force, Olayinka Egbeyemi, said a distressed call was received that 14 illegal commercial motorcyclists attacked the enforcement team and injured an officer, Innocent Okoro, and damaged some operational vehicles.

He stated that after committing the act, the motorcyclists escaped into a compound on Igbehinadun Street and locked themselves up.

Egbeyemi said 46 suspects were arrested and after thorough screening, 18 were released, noting that the remaining suspects would be prosecuted.

“The enforcement team, with the support of other officials coming from an enforcement operation on the Lagos Island, chased them into the compound and discovered a large number of motorcyclists and miscreants smoking Indian hemp in a residential house, he said.

“While some of them escaped by scaling the fence, the enforcement team arrested 46 of them, including those, who carried out the attack.”

Egbeyemi, while urging okada riders and road users in the state to operate within the ambit of the law, added that the agency would ensure that all residents complied with the Lagos State Road Traffic Law, 2012.
